Thirty-five years ago, four friends performed an intimate concert of chamber music in the home of Jean Allard. What began as a delightful afternoon event blossomed into years of friendship and musicmaking.

With the generous support of Jean and WFMT, Rembrandt Chamber Players was founded in the fall of 1990. Shortly after the first season, James Ginsburg at the newly-founded Cedille Records invited the group to record 20th century works written for Rembrandt’s instrumentation, inspiring the group’s ongoing commissioning and transcription efforts, and spurring the ensemble’s expansion to a wider instrumentation. For three decades, the Rembrandt Chamber Musicians have brought great music to life in highly engaging concerts, while ensuring the future of chamber music through educational activities and its annual High School Chamber Music Competition. Since its founding, Rembrandt Chamber Musicians has played a vital role in Chicagoland’s classical music world.
